Participatory Budgeting voting season is here! From April 1 to April 14, District 7 residents can vote on which community-initiated projects to fund.

Please take a moment and vote here.

There are many worthy proposals on the ballot. Four were developed by Sunnyside residents and would have a direct impact on our neighborhood. These are:

Vision Zero / Pedestrian Safety

Judson Avenue Speed Reduction Traffic Calming and Pedestrian Safety

In the last five years, two people have died in traffic incidents on Judson Avenue — a ParticipatoryBudgeting2018_SocialMediaImages_pedestrians2013 collision that killed a neighborhood pedestrian, and a 2016 collision that killed one, injured another, and caused structural damage to a house. Neighbors are requesting traffic calming and crosswalk improvements for this street that borders City College and Riordan High School.

Mangels and Foerster Crosswalk

Neighbors are requesting a high-visibility crosswalk. Traffic on Foerster does not stop at this intersection, which is half a block from Sunnyside Playground.

Culture

Sunnyside Park Plaza Activation

The Sunnyside Park Advocates are requesting tables, chairs, and shade to make the plaza in front of the clubhouse a more event-friendly space.

School, Education, and Youth

Inclusive Play for Sunnyside Elementary’s Shared School Yard

Sunnyside Elementary PTA requests funding for new playground equipment, including a climbing wall and accessible equipment for children with special needs. As this playground is now open to the community on weekends through the Shared Schoolyard program, these improvements will benefit both students and neighborhood children.

HOW TO VOTE:

Who: All District 7 Residents aged 16 and up may vote
When: Vote anytime from April 1 – April 14, 2018

Vote Online

Vote In Person: Ingleside or West Portal Branch Libraries, or at Supervisor Yee’s office in City Hall, Room 273

Last year, Sunnyside came out to vote and won funding for three projects: two pedestrian safety initiatives, and one for Sunnyside Playground. Let’s keep making our neighborhood better and safer!
